If you enjoy making things and expressing yourself in a creative way then Art and Design could be for you!  You will need to think for yourself, as there are no right or wrong answers in art and this sort of creative thinking is an important skill that employers recognise.
You should take Art & Design if you love being creative and want to increase your knowledge and understanding of the subject.

ART GCSE

Art and Design GCSE holds opportunities for all learners but is especially relevant to Visual and Kinaesthetic learners.
In developing your ideas you will experience a range of media, for example painting and drawing, ceramics, sculpture, textiles and printmaking.  You will be encouraged to use digital cameras.  You will have the opportunity to visit museums, galleries and to work with practising artists.  You will also learn about the work of other artists which helps to inform your own work.
How will I get my marks at GCSE?
You will produce 3 different projects over 2 years with research in your sketchbook.  You will be given a final exam of 10 hours.  Don’t worry, the exam is spread over 2 days with normal breaks and lunchtimes!  Prior to the exam you will be given time to research, discuss and prepare ideas.  The exam involves making a final piece of work, from a choice of questions, in the material of your choice.
Unit 1 Portfolio of work = 60% of the total mark.
Unit 2 Externally set work = 40% of the total mark.
You will need to be self-motivated.  After choosing an area of study you will need to be able to do your own independent research, for example use the library and internet or visit a gallery.  A willingness to experiment with ideas and materials is important, as are good presentation skills.  Co-operation with your classmates is also essential.
If I take Art & Design, what can I do in the future?
