BUGS
The Goya Gallery of Young Art’s new exhibition ‘Bugs’ opens Monday 21st September until Thursday 22nd October.
The work by Year 9 students is inspired by their visit to The University Museum of Natural History in Oxford. It’s a creepy crawly collection of 2D & 3D work.

Darwin Competition
Congratulations to Year 10 artists whose competition entries for the Darwin Plinth were on display in the Natural History Museum, Oxford. Although we didn’t win the main prize there were a lot of compliments for Larkmead students from museum staff and visitors to the exhibition. The private view was well attended at the museum and entries can be viewed online by clicking here.
Oxford Chamber Music Festival Concert
On 30th September twelve GCSE Music students attended a concert at as part of Oxford Chamber Music Festival 2009. After the excitement of the bus breaking down we eventually arrived at Wheatley Park School on time.
1963 stage adaptation of Ken Kesey's iconic novel ‘One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest’. Students and staff were highly impressed by what they saw.
The programme, for 2 violins, viola, cello, clarinet and piano, included three famous pieces of 20th century music: Messiaen’s Quartet for the end of time, Shostakovich’s String Quartet No. 10, 2nd mvt and Penderecki’s Coda for solo viola, each accompanied by an interesting introductory talk by the performers. Despite being complex music to listen to, the performance was highly engaging and the opportunity to hear this music live was clearly valuable.
Larkmead Rocks Launched!
We are delighted to have launched our online record label: Larkmead Rocks! This title (and logo) was designed by our Year 8 students. The aim of this label is to publish students’ music work (performances and compositions) online for all to hear. We hope that this will encourage students to really strive for their best in their Music lessons and ensembles and also enjoy sharing their music with other young people via other labels on the numu website.
