On Thursday 11th December, pupils from Year 7 - sixth form celebrated Christmas performing a variety of music to a packed audience in the school hall.
The brass group commenced the evening with a rousing fanfare followed by three sixth formers’ beautiful rendition of ‘Song Bird’ sung very musically by Annabelle, accompanied by Katie (piano) and Henry (violin). Ruby (Yr 10) then performed ‘Praeludium’ on piano showing her musical talents. Next the choir, made up of pupils from all year groups, sang John Rutter’s ‘The Lord Bless You and Keep You’ accompanied by the string ensemble.

The second half began with the school orchestra’s rendition of ‘Diamonds are Forever’ followed by the guitar group’s upbeat arrangement of ‘Under the Bridge’ sung by Sophie (Yr 10) and guitarists Emma (Yr 11) and Carl (6th Form). Georgina (Yr 7) performed confidently and from memory ‘Honky-Tonk Man’ on piano. The choir and string ensemble then followed singing ‘The Prayer’ with soloists Tara (Yr 11) and Ruby (Yr 10); a difficult song which the soloists managed to lead successfully. ‘In the Bleak Midwinter’ performed confidently by Callum (Yr 11) set the Christmas scene once again. The string ensemble made up of beginners to grade eight standard then performed ‘Ave Verum’ followed by ‘O Holy Night’ sung very angelically by Dominic (Yr 8) accompanied by the choir and string ensemble.

Brother and sister, Jenny and Henry (Yr 11/6th Form) then performed very musically as a violin duet ‘Pachelbel’s Canon’. ‘Jingle Bells’ performed confidently by Tailor (Yr 8) on piano got the audience into the Christmas spirit followed by Dominic’s (Yr 8) stylish performance on trumpet of ‘Have You Met Miss Jones’. Completing the first half of the concert the choir sang ‘Hero’ beautifully sung by soloists Ruby (Yr 10), Tara (Yr 11), Aoife (Yr 10), Emma (Yr 7), Alexandra (Yr 8), Sophie (Yr 7) and Natalie (Yr 7). This was followed by the audience participating with the choir singing ‘All I want for Christmas is You’.
To conclude the evening, leaving everyone in the Christmas spirit, the choir and audience, accompanied by the orchestra, sang ‘Merry Christmas Everybody’ and ‘Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas’.
